What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember simple things — such as a preference you set — between pages and visits. On their own they do not identify you personally.
How we use them
We keep our use of cookies deliberately light. The cookies and similar storage we rely on fall into three groups:
- Essential — needed for the site to work, including remembering your cookie choice and keeping form submissions secure.
- Preference — remember small choices so the site behaves the way you left it.
- Analytics — help us understand, in aggregate, which guides and pages are most useful, so we can improve them. These only run if you accept.
Your choice
When you first arrive, a banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. Whatever you choose, you can change your mind later using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Essential cookies cannot be switched off, as the site cannot run without them.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also control cookies through your browser settings — blocking them, deleting existing ones, or asking to be warned before a cookie is stored. Note that blocking essential cookies may stop parts of this site from working as intended.
